Making Progress

About a bazillion and two blog years ago, I made a couple posts about laundry rooms. There was my inspiration and a little post that was never meant to be, in the process of working on our laundry room the Tall Man tore his meniscus in his left knee which resulted in his third surgery in as many summers.
Over the past few months I've been working here and there on our little laundry room and I thought I'd update you on the progress. So here is a peak at what it looked like before. So white and cluttered and just blah!
And here it is now. Two different shades of green, the same colors you can find in our home office. The infamous window is hung with a red berry wreath and ivory ribbon. My Tall Man helped again by cutting a piece of wood to replace the plastic coated shelf.
The wall opposite the washer and dryer is where our coat hooks are. These are SO convenient!
There is still a lot of work to do. Touch up work for the most part. Here for instance. I measured for where my paint colors would meet and then ended up having to put the shelf a smidge above the paint line. I had planned on putting a white 1x4 all the way around the room where the colors meet. I can still do that, I just need to get more of the darker green paint and bring it up a bit.
Oh, I also need to replace an outlet cover or two and finish painting around the water hook-ups.
Still a work in progress but we're getting somewhere and that's good enough for me for now. I'll probably finish it this spring when it's warm enough outside I can open windows and doors for some ventilation. I hope I've made you all feel better about your half finished projects. =o)

Blessings.

Laundry Room Hook-Up

Let me start by saying "That's not what I meant, you dirty bird!" Hee hee!
You may remember in July my Tall Man was helping me with a laundry room project and ended up hurt. Believe it or not he hasn't sworn off these projects! He actually helped me with another one just before Christmas.
He measured our little laundry room and cut a 1x4 to fit along the wall behind the doors that go into our garage and kitchen. Then he hung the 1x4 right where my two greens meet up. I gave it a couple coats of paint, the same color as the trim throughout our house. It's just barely off white. After the paint dried, my Tall Man helped again by not laughing at me when I measured wrong when planning for the hooks. This was a big help, believe me. After I realized I was measuring wrong, we remeasured and made a few pencil marks for five hooks to go. Then we just screwed in a brushed nickel hook from WalMart for each member of our family.
Here it is!
And here it is being used!
I love it! Now when my little chicks come in from the snow they can take off their wet clothes in the laundry room and hang them on a hook. Wet clothes used to sit in a heap on the carpet in our living room. Hanging clothes in the laundry room above the linoleum floor makes SO much more sense. Plus I can go in and pop the clothes in the dryer to dry them thoroughly and warm them up in the morning before school. They love it when I do that.
I'll show you the rest of the progress in our laundry room in a couple days. Promise.

Blessings.

Tall Man Down!

I hope you all had a very happy and safe 4th of July. Ours was pretty laid back due to a rather eventful 3rd of July. As you know our laundry room has been a work in progress for a couple of month now. I finally painted a few weeks ago, Tall Man made me a shelf a couple weekends ago, we put that in just so. Next I wanted to hang a ginormous window a friend gave me (so sweet.)
So on Saturday my dear Tall Man decided he was going to help me get this old window ready to go. We brushed it down, he shop vac'd the dust, wood chips, cobwebs, etc.. We cleaned the windows with some Windex and newspaper then Tall Man took a blade and scraped ever last bit of paint off the glass and cleaned it again...
I want to pause right there and say this: A few times during this process I thanked my loving husband for all his he was doing to help me with the laundry room, but told him I was perfectly okay with it if he wanted to help with this later and go do something for himself right then, work in the yard, whatever. His choice. So is that clear? I gave him the opportunity to do something else a FEW times. Got it?
... After I offered an out (a few times!) Tall Man said he didn't mind helping me and we continued on to hang the window. Well, in the process of hanging this bad boy...
...this bad boy tweaked his knee.
When getting down from the washer and dryer the step stool slipped and all of the Tall Man's weight went on his left leg (which has had two surgeries in the last two years.) With a little twist he was done for. Luckily my dad and his girlfriend were headed our direction anyway so we were able to go to the not so Urgent Care. Based on what the doctor said we're pretty sure he re tore the meniscus he had mended in '08. Due to the holiday weekend we're stuck waiting until Tuesday morning to call the orthopedic surgeon and schedule an MRI. So there ya go. Tall Man Down!!
More on the laundry room to come...

Blessings.

Laundry Today or Naked Tomorrow

Details are key to a room and when you're working with a small space I think they're even more important. As I prepare to redo my little laundry room I am doing a lot of searching for details that will make our small space just right. I'm sure you've noticed vinyl is a HUGE trend right now. Stencils are pretty popular too. I thought I'd share some cute vinyl and stencils I've come across in my search.
Right on the Walls
A few vinyls I found on random sites.

So true. This one makes me laugh.

Wonderfully Wordy has great vinyl!

I'm not sure what I'll use for our laundry room but these are all great ideas!

Laundry Room Inspiration

Have you seen my laundry room? (Some of you should be saying "No, I haven't seen your laundry room.") It's not much of a room, it's more of a hallway from the kitchen to the garage. Tiny. One day I would love to have a laundry room like one of these.
I love how bright and airy this one is.
I'm not sure how much of a "room" this is but I love the off whites. It's so fresh, so clean, clean. (If you were a teen in the late 90's, you're welcome for Outkast song that is now stuck in your head.)
This is from HGTV's 2009 Dream Home.Loving the beachy feel of this room. And lastly a laundry room from This Old House. All I can say is "Yes please!"

You may be wondering why I have an interest in all these fabulous laundry rooms. Well a few weeks ago my Tall Man stopped by Habitat for Humanity and surprised be with some cabinets for our laundry room. I am SO over the plastic coated wire shelf thingies they put in houses now. So I'm on a mission to redo our laundry room. Let me be upfront with you from the beginning. There is absoutely NO WAY my space will look anything like the ones above. But a girl can dream, right?
